MICHAEL DUNN CUSTOM GUITARS
ACOUSTIC
Dunn uses spruce or cedar for the tuned soundboard, and an ebony fingerboard on top of a Honduran mahogany neck. Models have a brass tailpiece, and are finished with a French polish process. A slotted peghead is optional. The Mystery Pacific model was developed from the original design patented by Mario Maccaferri in 1930. The Mystery Pacific is fitted with an internal soundbox and reflector, and possesses the D-shaped soundhole, cedar soundboard, and rosewood back and sides. The Stardust has an oval soundhole, and features paduak or a similar medium density tropical hardwood for the back and sides. The scale length of the Belleville is 670 mm, as compared to the Stardust's 640 mm scale. Construction of the longer-scaled Belleville is similar to the Stardust model. The Daphne has no internal soundbox or reflector. The Patenotte is a gypsy guitar based on the Patenotte guitar from France.
In addition to the Maccaferri-derived models, Dunn also builds a 660 mm scale Classical guitar, a 1939 Hauser-type Classical (650 mm scale length) guitar, a Flamenco model, and a Weissenborn-style acoustic Hawaiian guitar model. Guitars start at $3,400 and guitars with an internal sound box start at $4,100.
