He was a technical assitance rep for Stewart-McDonald. He also has a regular column called "The Drawing Board" in Guitar Digest Magazine. Hirst builds all sorts of guitars including electric guitars, acoustic guitars, basses, mandolins, violins, and dulcimers. He mainly specializes in the electric guitar and bass field.
