The ToneSmith series has several different models: The model 316 (the 1997 new offset body shape), model 320, (double cutaway model), model 412 (1996 offset double cutaway body), and the model 510 (a 1996 single cutaway design). All models are available in Guitar, Baritone, and Bass configurations.
After the customer selects the body style and configuration, a decision is made to the level of features. The Special has an alder body and top, maple neck with black or ivoroid binding, rosewood fingerboard, pearl dot inlays, solid colors, and nickel or chrome hardware. The Custom has a bound mahogany (or alder, or ash) body, flame or bird's-eye maple (or mahogany, alder or ash) top, ivoroid (or pearl or tortoiseshell) bound maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, pearl diamond wing inlay, semi-transparent or burst finishes, and nickel or chrome hardware.
The Deluxe is similar to the Custom, except has ebony (or bubinga) fingerboards, sparkle finishes, and optional gold hardware. All ToneSmith models are optional with an acoustic bridge pickup, Bigsby tremolo, or custom ordered colors. The Ultra Lite Version substitutes a spruce body and spruce or maple top for the regular body and top.
