TEUFFEL | ELECTRIC | The Teuffel Birdfish model has a minimalist metal frame, which reduces the design of an electric guitar to its essential components. The central elements consist of two aluminum sculptures of a bird and a fish, which provides the frame for components to be connected, vibrations transmitted, and interaction with the musician's body. Resonator cylinders (up to two) can be attached across the top of the frame, and consist of both a maple and swamp ash core. A wiring harness provides for interchanging the pickups, and are connected by a central rod for placement by twisting or sliding. Strings are run reverse from the headstock to a Steinberger-style bridge/tailpiece, and the bird's-eye maple neck has 22-frets. The entire Birdfishguitar set consists of the Birdfishframe, four body resonators, five pickups, and a heavily padded and lined nubuk leather bag. The Birdfish is available in Apricot, Charcoal, Fire (red), Olive, or Sapphire (blue) finishes. A Birdfish MIDI model is also available. Prices start at €8,800 for the Standard model and €10,500 for the MIDI model. The Coco, retains the moveable pickup concept. However, the Coco has an angular body with round pointed horns instead of a minimalist metal body. This body is constructed of a pearwood core, surrounded by a lightweight composite material and a polymer finish. The 22-fret bird's-eye maple neck has a six-on-a-side headstock and LSR tuners. The Coco has a Wilkinson tremolo bridge/LSR roller nut, three splitable Alnico pickups, volume/tone controls, and a five way selector switch. This model has been out of production since 2002, and used Cocos are currently valued starting at €6,000. The Tesla Classic is a seven-string guitar with a low-B string. This is a more traditional design with a full body. The neck is made out of bird's-eye maple and connects to the body at the 8th fret. There is no headstock and the strings are all tuned at the bridge. There are two hand-wound pickups, and control by three push button switches that all have different functions. Early models feature a glow in the dark luminescent finish. When the lights are off it has a light green glow to it! This guitar is also available as a six-string version, the Tesla Studio. The Tesla is also available in a MIDI version. The Tesla is currently available in Apricot, Charcoal, Fire (red), Olive, or Sapphire (blue) finishes. Prices start at €4,300 for the Classic model, €4,500 for the Studio model, and €5,300 for the MIDI model. The Niwa model shows the most traditional design among all of Teuffel's models. It has a body, neck, and headstock constructed from Red Alder, and the fingerboard and headstock are made from rosewood. The electronics include three hand-wound pickups completely covered with Rosewood as well as the three large control buttons. The dramatically-shaped body has a sound chamber is as well as a vibrato unit. This model was introduced in 2008 and prices start at €5,200. As a tribute to Teuffel's Twentieth Anniversary, he has lined up a unique triplet of three guitar models. There are ten numbered sets, each including a Niwa, a Tesla and a Birdfish. Each guitar has a neck made of a single piece of French walnut and modified AlNiCo pickups which underline the warm character of the walnut timber. The instruments are painted in the spot color "Sand." Dimensions and scale are identical with the production models. Each guitar bears both the serial number and the number within the triplet series as well as its own case and display. Prices start at €26,000. | |
