SIERRA DESIGNS | Instruments previously built in Portland, OR during the early 1980s. | Sierra Designs was founded in 1983 by Gene Fields. Fields, who worked at Fender from 1961 to 1983, eventually joined the Fender R & D section in 1966. Fields was the designer of the Starcaster, Fender's bolt neck answer to the ES- 335 in the mid-1970s (source: Teisco Del Rey, Guitar Player Magazine, March 1991).
