SPALT | ELECTRIC GUITAR AND BASS | Since Spalt offers so many trademarks, the following is a listing of each one with a little explanation to make things a little clearer. TTR: This was Spalt's old business trademark before they switched to Spalt Instruments. Some older guitars and basses may be trademarked TTR. Totemguitars: This is Spalt's line of Resintop guitars that are high quality instruments with 3-D inclusions of objects, graphics, weathered woods etc. embedded in a clear polymer resin top over a wood back. These are individually crafted, and each one is a unique piece. The resin actually enhances the tone, adding overtones and sustain while retaining the basic tonal quality of the backing woods used, such as mahogany, ash, alder or redwood. Specifications vary widely - from vintage hardware/pickups to the best available modern hardware and our proprietary "Bonetop" pickups - wound over a real dyed bone bobbin. Customers have a wide choice of options and prices start at $3,800. Totem-X: This is derived from the Totemguitars line and is the closet thing Spalt offers in terms of a production model. The Totem-X feature mahogany bodies with tops of weathered and/or colored wood decorations sealed with our resin. The pickup configuration is a single/hum combination with Lindy Fralin pickups and they have bolt on maple/maple or maple/rosewood necks and Hipshot string-through-body bridges. They are designed for the performing musician as a dependable and versatile instrument with considerable visual appeal. Each Totem-X has a unique top and are priced at $2,450. S&S Guitars: These guitars are Tele-style true hollowbodies with stunning top woods over a carved-out mahogany back. They have bolt-on necks and are available with numerous pickup and hardware options. The hollow body makes for an exceptionally resonant and light guitar. They have great dynamic response and enhanced overtones, and at the same time the design is highly feedback-proof and stable. Prices start at $3,200. Spalt Hybrids: Formerly known as Spaltbasses. These instruments are based on an aluminum platform to which the wooden neck, pickups and wooden body parts (some moveable/adjustable) are bolted. The combination of the aluminum centerplate and the wood neck allows for great tonal definition and sustain along with the striking visual impact of the instrument. Highly figured or exotic woods can be used due to the particular shapes and sizes of the body parts. Only the best hardware and pickups are used. The metal parts can be anodized black or polished/chrome plated. They are ruggedly designed for road use and are made on a custom order basis only - options are therefore almost unlimited and many are included in the base price. All Hybrids come with a custom stand included. The Spalt Hybrid bass line consists of the six-string Apex 601 (Prices start at $3,450), seven-string Apex 701 (Prices start at $3,600), Bartolini-equipped Matrix 401 (Prices start at $3,750), EMG-equipped Matrix 402 (Prices start at $3,750), five-string Bartolini or EMG equipped Terminator 502 (Prices start at $4,250), six-string Bartolini- or EMG- equipped Aurora 601 (Prices start at $4,750), and the Lightwave-equipped Magma bass available in four-string (Magma 401, Prices start at $4,450), five-string (Magma 501, Prices start at $4,750), and six-string (Magma 601, Prices start at $5,750). The vWiper Bass was developed from a patented design by Michael Spalt in conjunction with Bill Bartolini. It features a swamp ash or alder body with a figured maple top, a maple neck, Cocobolo fingerboard, the vWiper pickup and electronics by Bartolini. Prices start at $3,750. | |
