PAUL REED SMITH GUITARS (PRS)
1985-CURRENT MFG., ELECTRONICS & SET NECK FEATURES
Early electronics included: PRS "Hybrid" pickup system, five-position rotary switch, volume control and Sweet switch. A master tone replaced Sweet switch in November 1991. Pickups were originally Standard Treble and Standard Bass. End slugs on T & B changed in 1987 to reduce high end. Changed on CE, Custom and Standard to HFS Treble and Vintage Bass by November 1991. PRS Tremolo System, Schaller/PRS locking tuners, low friction nut.
PRS instruments manufactured during 1985-87 evolved from the pre-'85 all mahogany guitar. By 1985, standard set neck features included back angled three-per-side non-veneered headstock, one piece mahogany glued in neck, regular shape, 25 in. scale length, 24-fret, single action truss road (double action truss rod fitted from late 1991), 10 in. radiused Indian rosewood fingerboard (Brazilian rosewood was standard until it was phased out by early 1990-91 on all but top-line limited edition models such as the Dragon), mother-of-pearl abalone moon inlays (birds were optional), and one piece mahogany body or back.
