PBC GUITAR TECHNOLOGY
ELECTRIC: GTS, GTX, & TOUCH SERIES
PBC offered a number of custom options in regards to woods, finishes, electronics, and other player-oriented concerns. In the early 1990s, PBC offered the GTS electric solid body series. Models featured PBC pickups, 25 in. scale, 24-fret fingerboards, Tension-Free necks, and six-on-a-side tuners. The GTS 200 (list $1,095 to $1,595) featured a offset double cutaway body, Floyd Rose tremolo system, two PBC Banshee single coils and one PBC Spectrutone humbucker pickup.
The GTS 350 (list $1,195 to $1,695) was a single cutaway model with two PBC Spectrutone humbucking pickups, coil taps, Tension-Free neck, and a through-the-body bridge. A semi-hollowbody version, the GTS 350 SH (list $1,595 to $1,895) featured similar hardware.
The GTX series of the early 1990s was a marriage of conventional guitar shapes and the Touch series electronics. GTX guitars had a unique angular body design, 25 in. scale, and 2 humbuckers (actually pre-amped Hex pickups similar to the Touch guitar system). The GTX 200 H (list $1,895) had the tuning keys on the headstock, while the GTX Hammer (list $1,995) featured reverse tuning (tuning keys on the bridge). A fairly advanced system that offered great sustain and keyboard-like note attack - the guitar is actually off until you hammer or pick a note!
The Dave Bunker Signature Series Touch Guitar models offered an instrument that can be played by touching the strings. This innovative instrument combines a 6-string guitar neck, four-string bass guitar neck, and the PBC Hexaphonic pickups/electronics package. The GTT 1000 was a high quality, basic model listed at $1,695, and had a solid color finish. The GTT 2000 (list $2,195) doubled the number of hexaphonic pickups per neck, and thus tripled the tonal options. The top of the line GTT 3000 added a series of adjustable bandpass filters to the 20 hexaphonic pickups, as well as the option of a clear lacquer finish on the natural wood models. The new list price on the GTT 3000 models ranged from $2,995 to $3,295.
