O'HAGAN | ELECTRIC | The most eye-catching model was the Shark (basic retail list $529), which was introduced in 1979. The body design recalls a rounded-off Explorer, and features maple and walnut in a neck-through design. The vaguely offset headstock features three-per-side tuning machine alignment, and the guitar has two humbuckers, a three-way pickup selector switch, two volume knobs and a master tone knob. Other models may feature push/pull coil tap potentiometers (this option cost an extra $90), and a phase switch. O'Hagan also developed the NightWatch model, initially a single cutaway LP-style guitar (original retail list $479), and then joined by a dual cutaway model (same retail list price) of the same name. In 1980, O'Hagan introduced his most popular model, the Twenty Two (retail list $529). This model, again built of maple and walnut, is based on the popular Flying V design. The Laser model, a sort of Strat-based design, featured a six-on-a-side headstock and either three single coils or a humbucker. As O'Hagans were basically hand-built custom instruments, various options can be found on existing models, and models were available in a left-handed configuration. | LASER | - offset double cutaway Strat-style body with different pointed ends, maple body with maple/walnut neck-thru design, 22-fret fingerboard, either 3 single coil or a single humbucker pickup, 6-on-one-side tuners, two knobs, single switch, available in various colors, mfg. 1981-83. |
