MOLL CUSTOM INSTRUMENTS | ELECTRIC ARCHTOP/ELECTRIC BASS | Moll Custom Instruments offer four archtop models in either a 16 in., 17 in., or 18 in. body width (a 19 in. body width is an option for an additional $500). The Classic (list $4,500) has a solid carved X-braced spruce top, solid carved maple back/sides/neck, ebony fingerboard, proprietary ebony tailpiece, and proprietary tuners. The Classic Custom is based off of D'Aquisto's model and lists for $7,500. The Express (list $7,000) is a modern design archtop with new dual soundholes (teardrop-shaped soundholes on older models). The D'Angelico-derived New Yorker has the fancy inlays and pickguard that most jazz players lust after (list $10,000). A John Pizzarelli model is available for $4,500. The Working Man's Hero is Moll's entry-level model and it lists for $3,500. Moll custom basses featured laminated figured maple and American walnut in their through-body neck designs, and used active Seymour Duncan Basslines soapbar pickups. Last MSR prices ran from $2,800 (four-string), to $3,000 (five-string), and up to $3,250 (six-string) base list prices. | |
