McLAREN | ELECTRIC BASS | The necks are made of hard maple with a carefully designed truss rod arrangement which pulls the fingerboard to the optimum curvature for a very low action. The truss rod is also positioned in the neck so that it will offset the tendency that all basses have for the tuner head to twist (this tendency is caused by the fact that the tension in D strings is about 15 pounds greater than that for E strings). Pickups used are active EMG in a P/J arrangement which makes it possible to individually adjust the volume of each string and gives a wide range of tones. The pickups are fully shielded and produce no hum or buzz either with the hands on or off the strings. Three body styles were produced, and each were offered in four- or five-string configurations, and fretted or fretless. The price ranged from $1,530 (QC4 four-string) up to $1,850 (BB5 five-string). | |
