 KYDD BASSES | | Instruments currently built in Upper Darby, PA. | | Luthier/inventor Bruce Kaminsky, a freelance bassist, designed the Kydd Carry-On bass electric bass to replicate the sounds of an upright acoustic bass in a six-pound, 35.5 in. overall length instrument. This smaller instrument is set up on a tripod stand, and has a 30 in.scale (as compared to a 41 in.plus scale on the old doghouse acoustics). Over the past couple of years, Kaminsky estimates that he has sold at least one hundred instruments. The Modulus Guitars company set up a distribution deal with Kaminsky to further distribute his basses in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
