KAY ELECTRIC: BARNEY KESSEL MODELS When guitarist Barney Kessel began endorsing Kay guitars, his signature appeared on the pickguards of the various Barney Kessel guitar models. By 1960, the signature was removed as Kessel had moved on to endorsing Gibson products. BARNEY KESSEL JAZZ SPECIAL (MODEL 8700 S) - semi-hollowbody, 24.75 in. scale, 3-per-side tuners, 2 pickups, mfg. 1957-1960. Barney Kessel Jazz Special (Model 8701 S) - similar to the Kessel Jazz Special (Model 8700 S), except features one pickup, mfg. 1957-1960. BARNEY KESSEL ARTIST (MODEL 6700 S) - semi-hollowbody, 24.75 in. scale, 3-per-side tuners, 2 pickups, mfg. 1957-1960. Barney Kessel Artist (Model 6701 S) - similar to the Kessel Artist (Model 6700 S), except features one pickup, mfg. 1957-1960. BARNEY KESSEL PRO (MODEL 1700 S) - single cutaway LP-style body, 2 pickups, mfg. 1957-1960. Barney Kessel Pro (Model 1701 S, Mfg. 1957 - 1960) - similar to the Kessel Pro (Model 1700 S), except features one pickup, mfg. 1957-1960. PRO (MODEL K172-S) - 24.75 in. scale, 3-per-side tuners, one pickup, mfg. 1954-57.
