HOLST, STEPHEN
ELECTRIC
Luthier Holst chooses aged spruce and maple for the tops and backs, and figured eastern hard rock maple for the neck. Fingerboards, bridges, finger rests, and tailpieces are constructed from ebony. The archtop guitars are finished in Natural Blonde or Sunburst, and feature gold Schaller M6 tuning machines. Both models in the archtop series are offered in a 16 in., 17 in., or 18 in.body widths, and have a number of options available, many at no additional charge.
The Holst K 100 Traditional model is designed as a tribute to past glories in archtop construction. The K 100 models are appointed with multiple layers of fine-lined binding throughout the neck, body, f-holes, headstock, and finger rest. The K 100 has an additional option of engraved mother-of-pearl inlays on the fretboard, headstock, and tailpiece. The base list price is set at $7,000.
Holst's K 200 series is a contemporary look at the evolution of the archtop design. The K 200 has a more modern feel in its simplicity in design, yet the same attention to building quality as the K 100. The K 200's understated elegance is captured in the all wood binding on the body, neck, and peghead. The f-holes are more contoured, the fingerboard and tailpiece are unadorned, and the finger rest is narrower in design. Base asking price begins at $5,000. A laminated version of this guitar is available starting at $2,800.
At the request of several jazz performers, Holst designed the K 250 thinline semi-hollow guitars. The K 250 draws on the inspiration and design of the K 200 archtop, combined with a highly figured black walnut top and peghead overlay. The body width is 15 in. and the electronics are the Tom Doyle D1 pickup system. List price is $4,000.
