GRD (GUITAR RESEARCH AND DESIGN)
ELECTRIC: GRD PASSIVE PICKUP SERIES
GRD offered passive pickup models starting in 1979 (there was no catalog featuring these particular guitar models). These models were available in either an Explorer or Flying V body shapes. The customer could choose any pickup configuration, although GRD recommended using different pickups for the neck and bridge positions (for example, a DiMarzio SDHP in the neck position and a DiMarzio X2N in the bridge position). The pickups were mounted with standard mounting rings made of brass, and were also available with the rear mounted specially potted DiMarzio pickups. The pickups also had coil taps for humbucker or single coil operation as well as a phase switch when both pickups were selected. These guitars still featured brass nuts, Schaller tuners, and featured Schaller wrap-around bridges. Gold-plated hardware was standard, but chrome hardware was available as an option (that's certainly a switch from today's marketplace!). Fine tuners were also optional.
The Passive models had the same two piece headstock/neck configuration, and heel-less body joint as the Active models. They also had the same mahogany neck/body woods as well as rosewood or maple tops. Passive models feature the same 24-fret phenolic fingerboard and scale length as the Active models.
