GRD (GUITAR RESEARCH AND DESIGN) | ELECTRIC: GRD AX SERIES | The AX Series was introduced in early 1979 as a more affordable alternative to the standard series. The AX Series was available in all four electric body styles (DC, SC, M 1, and Bass). While the neck/body construction was the same as the Standard Series , the hardware was different. Bodies and necks were Honduran Mahogany, and the face woods were Jet Black maple (or Fancy Flamed maple, or rosewood) with fancy interface laminates. There were two different control set-ups available, but the pickups were the same DiMarzio custom design used on all the other guitars. One DiMarzio was a PAF design, while the second model had a hotter output. Active models were powered with a 9-volt battery. The Standard AX had a master volume and two tone controls, slide type pickup selector (mixer), two Dual Sound switches (one per pickup). The Active AX had a master volume and master tone controls, slide type pickup selector (mixer), two Dual Sound switches (one per pickup), EQ/preamp switch, and six-band graphic equalizer (with 18 dB cut or boost). | |
