FENDER | Stratocaster: Classic/Collectible Series | Fender's Collectible Series was created to offer vintage-style Fenders from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s at a reasonable price. They were originally produced in Japan, and in the summer of 1999, Fender shifted all production of these guitars to Mexico and changed the name to the Classic Series. Almost every model that was produced in Japan continued on in Mexico, but Japan models draw more interest in the used marketplace. Earlier models of the '50s Stratocaster and '60s Stratocaster (1992-94) featured Fender's Foto-Flame finish, which simulated the look of a flame top (i.e., heavily figured maple). Later versions (1995-1998) were styled to be a vintage replica. | '50S STRATOCASTER (JAPAN MFG.
