CHARVEL
ELECTRIC: STANDARD SERIES/EARLY MODELS
The first Charvel guitars never really featured an official name. However, the base models introduced in the early 1980s were called Standard models in the price list. When you ordered a Charvel (or a dealer did), a base model was quoted in the price (typically with one, two, or three pickups) and several options were available. It is very difficult to find two Charvel guitars from this era that are exactly the same. Because of this inconsistency, it is very difficult to determine a value on them. The Standard Models reflect what a stock guitar without any options would sell for. Since almost all guitars feature at least a few options, this price is going to be very low. Early models featured a Strat-style headstock and some of these guitars are valued between $2,500 and $3,500. Later models with the standard Charvel headstock are valued between $1,200 and $1,500.
Fake Charvel guitars have become very common over the years because of their increasing collectibility. There are a few websites out there that are dedicated to Charvel and Jackson guitars. www.sandimascharvel.com These websites are full of information and serial numbers.
