CHAPIN | ELECTRIC | The main Chapin electric design is based on the single cutaway body of a Telecaster. This model was previously called the Falcon, but was renamed the T-Bird in 2003. The T-Bird (list $2,975 + options) has an alder or swamp ash body, maple neck with Campbell/Chapin locking dovetail joint, maple or rosewood fingerboard, 25.5 in. scale, two Van Zandt single coil pickups, volume/tone controls, three-way selector, and a thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The T-Bird Special (list $3,399 + options) has Velvet Hammer pickups, custom wiring, and a five-way switch; the T-Bird Deluxe (list $3,299 + options) has a 24.9 in. scale, two Tom Holmes PAF or Filtertron style humbuckers, hardtail bridge, and gold hardware - with a Bigsby or tune-o-matic bridge/stop tailpiece as custom options. The Hawk (list $2,999 + options) is a cross between the Tele and SG body designs. This model was originally designed for Billy Johnson (John Lee Hooker's band), and features a beveled mahogany or alder body, mahogany or maple neck, ebony or rosewood fingerboard, single coil/P-90-style or Tom Holmes humbucker pickups, three-way switch, 25.5 in. scale, and a bolt-on or set neck. A Cherry nitrocellulose finish is standard. The semi-hollow Fatline ($3,599 + options) has a mahogany body with three different internal tuned chamber designs. The set-in figured maple neck is available in a 24.9 in. or 25.5 in. scale, with a bound 22-fret rosewood or African blackwood fingerboard. The two Velvet Hammer humbuckers are set into an AAAA grade figured maple or redwood top, and feature custom wiring. The all-out Fatline TV (list $4,899 + options) was designed originally for guitarist Tim Volpicella, and features private stock aged tonewoods, quilted or flame maple top, koa pickguard/headstock plate/back plates, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, vibrato bridge, and gold hardware. | |
