The Batman model has an SG-ish body shape with the Caped Crusader's face on the headstock, Batman chest logo in yellow, and an overall black finish. The three-piece laminated mahogany neck runs through the body, and has mystery Batwood wings (the overall weight is pretty light - hmmm.) and a maple fingerboard with no inlay. All hardware is black, of course, and the guitar has a single humbucker pickup and one volume knob, three-per-side tuners, and a bridge/stop tailpiece combination. The Batman guitar came in its own Bat gigbag, with a Bat strap and certificate of authenticity. There were only fifty Batman guitars produced in this limited edition.
A year later, the team of Rich and Bolin struck again with the limited edition Joker guitar (and Joker gigbag). The Joker featured more of an explorer winged shape, with similar mahogany neck-through design and mystery wood wings. The guitar's body featured a pinstriped purple finish, with a green neck and Joker face graphic on the headstock. C & R Guitars announced that there would be one hundred instruments made in the limited edition - but only forty-two were actually built. The first forty-one were numbered similar to their matching Batman counterpart, but the forty-second guitar was numbered #100.
No matter how you slice it, there are only forty-one sets of Batman and Joker guitars. There is "#100" Joker, and nine additional Batman models swinging loose in Gotham City right now. The last recorded asking price for the set of two was $5,000. Given the nature of the guitars themselves, it's a safe bet that it will be a seller's market when they are available for sale.
