BUNKER GUITARS
MODEL CONSTRUCTION NOTES
Bunker instruments do have many similar innovative features. The Bunker Split Bridge bypassed the conventional single bridge piece for an individual bridge piece for each string. Each individual bridge was fully adjustable, and separated to prevent electrical or acoustical cross-feed. Bunker's Magnum round pickups featured a 1/4 in. diameter Alnico V magnet with its own vertically wrapped wire coil. Instead of a common coil and magnets/pole pieces, the Magnum was an individual pickup per string. All Bunker models feature the "Floating Neck" design that was later utilized on various PBC and Treker models (as well as some high end Ibanez USA Prestige models).
Bunker instruments are strung in reverse, so tuning keys are on the end of the body similar to the Steinberger bridge. Nova and Supernova models featured Peg Tuning, in which the string passed through the end of the body and was tuned by tightening a peg with a drum key (similar to autoharp stringing). After the primary tuning was completed, further tuning was accomplished by the Fine Tuner, an additional piece between the bridge and tuning machines that used adjustment screws to deliver a "finer, more precise tuning of strings."
