AMPEG/DAN ARMSTRONG AMPEG | MODEL DATING IDENTIFICATION | Due to various corporate purchases of Ampeg, production records have been lost or accidentally destroyed. Model productions are estimates based on incomplete records. 1962 : Ampeg debuts the Baby Bass. 1963-1964 : Importation of electric guitars and basses built by Burns; the five models are identical to the Burns models, except feature a pickguard inscribed Ampeg by Burns of London . 1966-1970 : Production of Ampeg's Horizontal bass models (AEB-1/AUB-1, ASB-1/AUSB-1, SSB-1/SSUB-1). 1969-1971 : Dan Armstrong invents the Lucite-bodied guitar, nicknamed the See-Through. Mid-1970s : The Stud series is imported in from Japan. Late 1970s : Introduction of the Hagstrom-built Patch 2000 guitar synthesizer system. 1997 : The Baby Bass is re-released, the Scroll Bass is released. 1998 : The new Dan Armstrong series is released in bass and guitar format (based on the original design). 2001 : The AMG1 guitar is released for "serious rock n' roll" players. It was discontinued along with all other Ampeg instruments by 2002. | |
