 RUBIO, DAVID | | Instruments previously built in New York City, NY, Spain, and England between the early 1960s and 2000. | | English master luthier David Rubio apprenticed in Madrid, Spain at the workshop of Domingo Esteso, which was maintained by Esteso's nephews. In 1961, Rubio built guitars in New York City, NY. Returning to England in 1967, he set up a workshop and built guitars as well as violins, cellos, lutes, and other instruments. One of Rubio's apprentices was Paul Fischer, who has gone on to gain respect for his own creations. David died of cancer on October 21, 2000. Information courtesy Paul Fischer. | |
