 REX | | See chapter on House Brands. | In the early 1900s, the Rex models were Kay-built student quality guitars distributed by the Fred Gretsch Manufacturing Company. By 1920 the Fred Gretsch Mfg. Co. had settled into its new ten story building in Brooklyn, New York, and was offering music dealers a very large line of instruments that included banjos, mandolins, guitars, violins, drums, and other band instruments. Gretsch distributed both the 20th Century and Rex trademarks prior to introduction of the Gretsch trademark in 1933.
Another Rex trademark has also been identified as a House Brand of the Great West Music Wholesalers of Canada by author/researcher Willie G. Moseley.
