MELLO, JOHN F.
Instruments currently built in Kensington, CA, since 1973.
Since 1973, John Mello has been building classical and small-bodied steel-string guitars, with an emphasis on clarity, projection, and providing the player with a wide dynamic range and broad palette of colors to interpret his/her music. His building is informed by extensive experience in restoring master instruments by both historic and contemporary makers, and his guitars have been exhibited at the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, played on recordings by Douglas Woodful Harris and Alex Degrassi, and gained him mention as one of America's seventeen best classical guitar makers by Musician Magazine. Handmade Mello guitars retail between $6,500 and $8,000. For more information, contact John directly or visit his website (see Trademark Index).
