MAYFLOWER Instruments previously built in Chicago, IL between 1918 and 1928. The Groeschel Company of Chicago, IL first began building bowl-back (or "potato bug") mandolins in 1890. Guitars were also manufactured under the Flower & Grochsl trademark. In 1918 Groeschel was changed to the Stromberg-Voisenet Company, who produced guitars and banjos under the Mayflower trademark. This Stromberg company is not to be confused with luthier Charles Stromberg (and son Elmer) of Boston, MA. Henry Kay Kuhrmeyer bought the Stromberg-Voisenet company in 1928, and renamed it Kay Musical Instruments in 1931 (See Kay).
