MAPSON, JAMES L.
Instruments currently built in Santa Ana, CA, since 1995.
Luthier James L. Mapson individually tailors both acoustic and electro-coustic archtop guitars by commission, balancing both design and construction to achieve performance goals for the professional musician. Beginning his career in 1995, James is largely self-taught. After considerable study of construction theory, he settled upon pursuing the D'Angelico approach, passed down and further developed by James L. D'Aquisto and subsequently by John Monteleone. Today Jim continues this approach to acoustic design, as well as his own designs to improve the electric archtop for performance and recording-minded clientele. Noted players using Mapson's instruments include Mundell Lowe, Ron Eschete, Frank Potenza and John Abercrombie. For more information contact Mapson directly (see Trademark Index).
