 MARTIN | | ACOUSTIC: 1 SERIES | | The 1 Series for Martin represented one of their middle-level line of guitars. Martin retained the size and appointments of their traditional models, but they redesigned all the structural components of the guitar. The most notable change was the cantilevered A-frame bracing pattern but other new designs included a neck-to-body joint, a stress-free neck, beveled front and rear blocks, and an angled bridge hole pattern. All tops featured solid spruce (except the C-1R has cedar), backs were constructed of either solid mahogany or laminated East Indian rosewood, and sides were made of three-ply laminated mahogany or East Indian Rosewood. The first 1 Series guitar (D-1) was introduced in 1993 and by the time Martin split their guitars into series in 1996, the line had rapidly expanded to include several dreadnoughts, jumbos, orchestras, 00s, and 000s. By the early 2000s, many models were discontinued and the series became grouped with the Road Series.
