 LA JOLLA LUTHIERS | | Instruments previously built in San Diego, CA. | Luthier Wayne Harris and his shop produced both steel-string and classical guitar models. Both models feature the unusual "Bi-Level" design (developed by Roger Pytlewski), in which the guitar's top is bent into two levels; the levels connect in a ten-degree "ramp" where the bridge is located. The purpose of this design (as addressed in their advertising) was "to increase the instrument's high overtones and overall perceived brilliancy and volume."
It is estimated that Harris built about one hundred instruments a year. The Collector's Series Bi Level steel string model is a dreadnought-sized guitar with a Sitka spruce top, Brazilian rosewood body, fan bracing, adjustable truss rod, and mahogany neck (last MSR was $2,167). | |
