 KAUFFMAN LUTHERIE | | Instruments currently produced in San Francisco, CA. | | Luthier Steve Kauffman builds high quality acoustic guitars in California. Kauffman began guitar building by looking at different variations of tonal qualities, especially in bracing systems and wood combinations. He built his first guitar in the early 1970s when he was a teenager. He also apprenticed with Steve Klein many years ago. They developed several projects together with Klein the designer and Kauffman the builder. Kauffman still builds Klein guitars, but he also builds his own line of guitars. All instruments are hand built by Kauffman in his San Francisco shop. The base price for his guitars is $9,500 for the New Parlor and the Small Kauffman, and $10,000 for the Large Kauffman.
