 HOLLENBECK GUITARS | | Instruments previously built in Lincoln, IL between 1970 and 2008. | | Luthier Bill Hollenbeck took a serious interest in guitars as a youth, and used to modify his own instruments in his attempt to improve them. Hollenbeck has a Master's Degree in Industrial and Technology and taught electronics to high school students for twenty-five years. During his teaching years, Hollenbeck met well-known midwestern luthier Bill Barker in 1970. Hollenbeck served as Barker's apprentice for twenty years as he learned the art of guitar construction. In 1990, Hollenbeck left his career in education to devote himself full-time to guitar building, restoration, and repair. Hollenbeck was featured at the Smithsonian Institute in 1996 during a week-long celebration of electric guitars. Then in 1998, he built one of the 18 in. Ebony-n-Blue guitars for the Scott Chinery collection, which was on display at the Smithsonian. Hollenbeck built mainly Jazz guitars and most of them feature a floating humbucker pickup.
