HOFFMAN GUITARS
ACOUSTIC
Given the nature of hand building custom guitars, the following information is more of a guide than an exact specification for the commissioned guitar.
The Concert Model was designed with a fingerpicking player in mind, and also works well with vocal accompaniment. This Concert Model is available with a cutaway body, or a 12-fret (body joins the neck at the 12th fret) configuration: body length 18.75 in., depth 4.5 in., lower bout 15.25 in.
Hoffman's Dreadnought model is built along the lines of the classic Martin Dreadnought shape, with a somewhat "stiff" top (to accentuate the treble) and a slightly deeper body. This model is also available with a cutaway body, or a 12-fret (body joins the neck at the 12th fret) configuration: body length 20 in., depth 5 in., lower bout 15.6 in.
The Parlor guitar is patterned after the numerous parlor guitars of the 1900s to the 1930s, and is standard with a 12-fret neck. It is optional in a slotted or solid headstock: body length 19 in., depth 4.125 in., lower bout 13.75 in.
The Jumbo is a 16 in. body (similar to the Gibson J-185), which has a thinner 4 in. body for a more balanced tone and 24.75 scale.
The 00 is based on the Martin 00 style and is available in 12- or 14-fret configurations.
Hoffman's primary body shapes are all priced the same by the nature of the body woods that determine the construction. African mahogany and East Indian body body woods retail at $4,200, highly flamed maple starts at $4,400, koa starts at $4,600+, and cocobola start at $4,600. Brazilian rosewood and other body woods are also available - please inquire for more information. A harp guitar with a mahogany body starts at $8,500.
