 GAY | | Instruments previously built in Edmonton (Alberta), Canada between circa early/mid-1950s and the mid-1970s. | | Luthier Frank Gay maintained his guitar building and repair services for more than two decades in Edmonton. A formidable jazz and classical guitarist, his flattop acoustics were the most recognizable instrument. Oddly enough, his biggest endorsers were country western artists (one notable player was Webb Pierce). Gay guitars are recognized by the exaggerated checkerboard rosette inlays, six-on-a-side headstocks, and the occasional heart-shaped soundhole. Source: Teisco Del Rey, Guitar Player Magazine. | |
