GURIAN, MICHAEL
MODEL OVERVIEW/GENERAL INFORMATION
The models listed in the following categories are the most common Gurian guitars encountered in the used market; however, other variations do exist and because of the obscurity of these guitars, they need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Size 2, Size 3, and Jumbo models were all available in left-handed configuration, with a wide neck, and with electronics. The standard Gurian neck was narrow in comparison to other acoustic necks with a 1.625 in. wide nut. Brazilian rosewood and koa back and sides were also offered although not on a standard production basis. Brazilian models are indicated by a B in the model name and koa models are indicated by a K in the model name. It appears that Gurian stopped using Brazilian rosewood in the mid-1970s. Gurian also built a handful of Size 1 (parlor sized) guitars that are extremely rare. These guitars feature Brazilian rosewood back and sides and they do not have labels or serial numbers.
Almost all Gurian guitars feature a Brazilian rosewood bridge and bridgeplate and an ivory saddle and nut. Guitars that were equipped with pickguards featured a thin black teardrop-style guard. Tuners were chrome Schallers on standard models and gold Schallers or Grovers on custom and fancier models.
