 GRETSCH | | ACOUSTIC: HISTORIC/FLATTOP SERIES | | In 2000, Gretsch launched its first budget series called the Historic Series, which were basically all models based on popular vintage Gretsch models produced overseas. Most price points were between $600 and $1,000 - a price that Gretsch guitars never had been since the 1950s and 1960s. These new guitars were received lukewarm response and the entire Historic Series was discontinued in 2003. However, some of the popular models went on to other series. For acoustic guitars, only the Rancher and dreadnought-style guitars survived and they are currently the only two budget models Gretsch produces today.
