 GALLAGHER GUITARS | | ACOUSTIC | All Gallagher guitars are meticulously handcrafted, using the finest woods available at the workshop. Hardshell cases are an extra charge, at $150 for a standard hardshell case or $575 for a Calton case, which is custom made for Gallagher instruments.
The first Gallagher guitar model was built back in 1965, and was designated the G-50 in honor of J.W. Gallagher's age at the time. In 1968, both Doc and Merle Watson began playing guitars crafted by J.W. and Don. In 1974, Doc Watson requested particular features in a guitar that was built for him, and it was the basis for the Doc Watson model. In 1975, Merle recieved the first cutaway version of this model. The first GC-70 was built in 1968, for country artist Grandpa Jones. The 71 Special was introduced in 1970. The 72 Special was introduced in late 1977.
