FYLDE
ACOUSTIC
The clever folks at Fylde named many of the current guitar models after characters in Shakespeare plays (which, in the long run, is more entertaining than a simple model number). The Ariel model has a slotted headstock, and a body design somewhere between a nylon and steel-string guitar design. The Ariel features a cedar top, mahogany back and sides, and a 12/19-fret ebony neck with a 629 mm scale length. The Goodfellow is slightly larger than the Ariel, and has a 14/20-fret rosewood fingerboard.
If you combine a single cutaway with a Hot Club-era Selmer acoustic, the results may be a Caliban. The D-shaped soundhole and deep cutaway mark this model, constructed with a cedar top, Indian rosewood back and sides, and ebony fingerboard and bridge. The Egyptian features a spruce top, an oval soundhole, and bridge/metal tailpiece with its deep cutaway and Indian rosewood back and sides. Both models feature a 24 fret fingerboard.
The Falstaff and Oberon models share similar construction such as spruce tops, Indian rosewood back and sides, and an ebony fingerboard and bridge. The Falstaff has a dreadnought body appearance and a 68 mm scale, while the Oberon leans toward a grand concert style and 629 mm scale.
Fylde's Orsino acoustic is a dreadnought-style guitar with a cedar top and mahogany back and sides. The Othello (disc.) is very similar to the Orsino, except has a narrower fingerboard and wider frets. Both models feature rosewood fingerboards and bridges.
The deep-bodied jumbo-style Magician features a cedar top, walnut back and sides, a five-piece laminated neck, and an ebony fingerboard and bridge. The Alchemist is also available.
