 ERNIE BALL'S EARTHWOOD | | Instruments previously produced in San Luis Obispo, CA in the early to mid-1970s. | | After finding great success with prepackaged string sets and custom gauges, Ernie Ball founded the Earthwood company to produce a four-string acoustic bass guitar. George Fullerton built the prototype, as well as helping with other work before moving to Leo Fender's CLF Research company in 1974. Earthwood offered both the acoustic bass guitar and a lacquer finished solid body guitar with large sound chambers in 1972, but production was short lived (through February 1973). In April of 1975, bass guitar operations resumed on a limited basis for a number of years. | |
