CHARLES FOX GUITARS
Instruments currently produced in Portland, OR since 2002. Charles Fox has been a luthier since 1968.
Charles Fox (b. 1943) did his undergraduate work at the Art Institute of Chicago and completed his postgraduate work at Northwestern University in 1966. Fox began building his own guitars in 1968, and since then has worked both as a custom guitar builder and as the head of his own guitar production shop. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Fox's GRD Guitars (see GRD) were among the first instruments to define the market for high end electric guitars.
In 1973, Fox founded the first school for guitar builders in North America, the Guitar Research and Design Center. In recent years, Fox has founded and directed the American School of Lutherie in Healdsburg, California and has been a founder and educational coordinator of the Healdsburg Guitar Festival. In 2002, he stopped production under the C. Fox trademark and moved to Oregon. He has since started producing guitars under the trademark Charles Fox Guitars. For more information on C. Fox instruments see C. Fox. Charles has also introduced the Ergo line of guitars.
