CASA MONTALVO
Instruments currently built in Mexico. Distributed by the Berkeley Musical Instrument Company in Berkeley, CA.
Montalvo guitars are the result of a collaboration between George Katechis-Montalvo (a highly skilled craftsman) and Marc Silber (a noted guitar historian, restorer and designer). Montalvo had already been importing guitars from Mexico since 1987. Silber joined him in 1990 to found the K & S Guitar Company. K & S introduced higher quality woods, glues, finishes and American builders' knowledge to the Mexican luthiers for actual production in Mexico. Casa Montalvo guitars are currently being distributed by Berkeley Music. They were previously distributed by K&S Guitars, Inc. Berkeley took over circa 2001. Casa offers classical, flamenco, Hawaiian, and other stringed instruments. Retail prices range from $825 to $2,000. For more information, contact Berkeley directly (see Trademark Index).
